Adventure...

A couple of days ago, three of our bravest photographers embarked on a quest to find the mysterious 'Bookers' and to retrieve all the wholesale alcohol, juice and sweets they could carry. They had to get a bus all the way to Stockport (it's really far away), they got lost for several hours and when they finally found the legendary warehouse, they all went completely mental and spent a ton of money. This is of course so we could stock up on free stuff for any lovely people that have the good sense to make it down to our exhibition on the 9th.

So, we're not exactly bribing you- BUT, if you do head on down to The Seen and The Unseen at Kraak gallery, not only will you see some exciting new photography and a great collaborative exhibition (modest much?) but you'll also definitely get some FREE drinks and sugary goodies.

Who would be crazy enough to miss out on that?! Not you that's for sure.

Our exhibition preview night is on the 9th of May, from 6pm till 9pm. You can also come visit us on the 10th and 11th from 12pm till 6pm. Kraak gallery is in Manchester's Northern Quarter.

Q&A

A little look inside the minds of some of The Seen and the Unseen's photographers! -Part 1

Who or what is your inspiration as a photographer?

Chris: I always find myself looking to the people closest to me for inspiration; that way, I feel an increased connection to the work I make. Because of this approach, I can always look back and suddenly remember why I took a particular photograph - and it's that nostalgic feeling I enjoy so much.

Lucie: My inspiration comes from two contrasting places, the everyday and the idea of an imaginary world. I always find inspiration from style magazines such as POP and i-D and photographers including Paolo Roversi, Saga Sig and fashion designers, especially Alexander McQueen

Jess: Warhol's screen tests, the typology in a Jean-Luc Godard movie, vintage Playboy, Dorothea Tanning's Eine Kleine Nachtmusik, my parents love letters, documentaries that make you shiver, a man who listens to Joni Mitchell, the composition of a Mondrian, people watching, bookshops, Bob Dylan, and the way you decorate your bedroom. ...

Renata: My old time photography heroes will always be Irving Pen, Helmut Newton, Herb Rits, Sarah Moon… the list goes on. There are too many amazing photographers to be inspired just by one. I also really like go to the museums and galleries, gigs, artist talks (everything that’s creative). It doesn't promise me inspiration but it nourishes your creative soul, and that’s good.

Nathalie: My inspiration comes from everyday life and everything it throws at you. The rainy days i spend cuddled up in bed, the sunny days when the warmth touches my skin, all the beautiful people in my life, conversations, love, cupcakes, and the music that fills my ears.

Artist Profile: Nathalie Engel

Nathalie Engel's photographic work consistently revolves around fashion and portrait photography as she finds herself drawn to the beauty of the female form. Nathalie loves to edit and manipulate her own images and researching different techniques to develop her style. Whilst predominantly working with digital cameras she is starting to experiment with analogue and feels that she is still searching for who she is as a photographer.

Mission Statement

I looked around for hours yesterday so I could find my old typewriter. I tried typing up our mission statement with it. I think it looks pretty good!
